Yoram Rubin was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1945. He studied archeology at the Israel Museum and became the curator of the Massada Museum, Dead Sea, where his interest in photography began (1968-1970). After 2 years of photographing the Israeli desert landscape and archeological findings, Yoram spent 5 years in N.Y. (1971-1975) working at the Israeli Consulate and studying photography at different institutions, among them, The School of Visual Arts with Dorothea Kehaya, The New School with Josef Breitenbach, an internship at The International Center of Concerned Photography (ICP) with Cornell Capa. During his stay in N.Y., while still a student of photojournalism, Yoram had several exhibitions of his works based on his travels in Mexico: Crossroad Gallery, Parents Magazine Gallery.

Yoram returned to Israel at the end of 1975 and began working as a freelance photojournalist for various Israeli newspapers and as a sound technician for Israel Broadcasting Authority (TV). He also taught b/w and color photography and printing at Camera Obscura and other institutions. Through his contacts from the TV, Yoram began photographing Israeli theatre and dance performances and soon began to specialize in dance photography which was to become his passion until today.
