ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY
My name is Demosthenes Gallis, I am 37 years old and I work as an art director in a private bank in Athens, Greece. I got seriously involved with photography nearly ten years ago and I am self-taught. The film format I use is the classic 35 mm. I process my themes digitally even though I tend to adhere to traditional darkroom practices.
I draw my themes, mostly, from natural and architectural sceneries, nudes, and stills. However, I try to give my themes a multileveled “reading”. My favorite concepts I prefer to deal with are spirituality, solitude, rhythm, time, tranquility, divinity, desolation, balance and transition. I always thought of art photography, among other fine arts, as being an artist’s desperate attempt to reveal his/her psyche to others. It is a refined way to tell people who you really are and what you stand for.
I have displayed some of my works in two joint exhibitions. The first one was in 1999 in Salonica (Demetria ‘99) and the other in 2001 in Malta (Biennale of New Artists) from which I won a distinction.
After a prolific absence of four years I decided to share again my way of seeing things with other people. Please feel free to make your comments; your feedback is precious!
