"Photography is the art of Not pushing the
button"
Monsieur Horvat explains -
One difference between photography and painting (or
drawing, or other forms of art) is that it takes no talent,
and practically no effort, to get an image on film. A
modern camera takes care even of focusing and
exposure.

Her husband, Paul McCartney said "Because of her
perception, Linda could see the way you are inside,
beyond the act or the image, and it was that honest
reality that she photographed.

Erwitt, who is possibly more famous now for his
amusing and widely reproduced photos of dogs than
for the handsome balance of work he's done during
his almost 50 years with the Magnum photo agency,
haunts museums of all types around the world "at idle
moments."

Salgado's images are successors to the lost tradition
of history painting, They remind us that battlefields are
mostly piled with civilian casualties, that the
developed world, so plump and abundant, is home to
the lucky few and that the epic of our time remains
what it was before our time, the everyday struggle to
survive.

In this work Theresa displays her mastery of yet
another technique. "I have been using Infrared film for the past 15 years
and five years ago was one of the pioneers in
discovering how to capture infrared with a digital
camera."

Having seen the work of Mario Pischedda on pixiport.com I felt compelled to interview this man who makes pictures that communicate so deeply. It might have been easier to search for his name on the internet BEFORE I asked him if I could interview him! I guess I never realised where I would be going in the next 24 hours! Mario Pischedda is as intense as his images are serene moments of insight to last only in archives of the viewer's mind.

WILLIAM ROPP`s superb photographs speak for themselves, in many ways, and in his new work is yet another dimension as the results of his recent expedition to Mali shows.

Bruce says....My passion is color and setting the scene. My background and training is as a Scenic Artist. In transferring that knowledge to my art, I try to capture mood, a sense of place and time and perhaps a feeling of mystery and excitement. I do not strive to change the world, but rather embrace its wonder and share, "bright, particular moments in time". All of my work is presented as a scene designed to evoke emotion from the audience.

Gary Auerbach
Whether it is his spellbinding portraits of Native
Americans or his imaginative architectural
images, Gary Auerbach's photographs
transport one to another era. In the 'Night for Day'
series, Auerbach photographs at night with an
8x10 view camera and prints his images in
photogravure. The gravure process gives
Auerbach a way to put the touch of the hand in
the intaglio wiping of each print. Using the
negative of a night image, he creates a result that
has an impressionistic quality, somewhere
between the setting of night and the dawn of day.

He won his first photography contest while still in high school and eventually went on to get a Masters Degree in Photography from the Brooks Institute of Photography. For the next 30 years he taught photography at the secondary and college level and managed his commercial photography business, West Coast Images.

It is strange to think that 20 years ago the thought of Photographers and Artists being able to display their creations to a world wide audience was not even a "dream." Now of course, the world-wide web has enabled anybody with talent, (and many without!) to display and sell their images at the click of a button. Here at Pixiport we strive to maintain a site that represents the very best, Quality with a capital Q.

Dubi Roman has always loved Impressionist painting. He sought a way to express an Impressionist vision of nature through photography - to see things in terms of light. Dubi Roman not only captures the play of light in the fields and forests; the shimmering images of a physical landscape. His works also suggest a different light. The stretches of wild flowers in the wood, the dark trunks of trees, are suffused with a more mysterious light; a spiritual radiance emanating from Nature.

In the Smithsonian Institution's letter of appreciation found at the close of this book, the photographer Gary Auerbach is rightly praised for his artistry and mastery of his craft. Stunning and lush, rich in texture and vibrancy, and deftly composed, the alluring photographs presented here and in the limited edition of photogravures, reveal a compelling talent. But to me, the ultimate beauty of these images lies with Auerbach's subjects as well as his own gifted vision. The indigenous voice--an essential element notably absent in most images of Native Americans-- is celebrated in this path-breaking, harmonic union of images and words. Jennifer Brathovde
