Hello PixiPort,

Helyn of Pixiport is placing the future of Pixiport between the talented hands and sharp spirit of her friends, Scarlet James and Jeff Galbraith. The move is aiming to greater achievements, choosing the right person for the right job. Helyn's spirit will further Pixiport's mission and her creativity is now experiencing new avenues, promising an extension of Pixiport beyond the dreams of all of us who have benefited and admired her work. `Jean Luc Cornille`

Some pictures are simple and complete inside my head from the beginning, but most of them start with the inspiration of the objects. It may be something found in a junk shop, washed up on the beach near my home or something from my past - wooden letters from a childhood game, my palette from my art school days. I often assemble a collection of items and then have "playtime' to find the right composition, juxtaposition and colours. Colour is,of course very important. I love saturated colour and often use pure pigments on objects and backgrounds. Sometimes a meaning will evolve that was not originally intended but mostly I prefer people to read what they like into the pictures or hopefully just enjoy them for their visual stimulation.

To date, I have welcomed my Mac and Photoshop into my life like a free Picasso. To be clear, as a personal choice, I don't do photo composite stuff. I don't put angel wings on a nude and have her flying over the Sahara. Frankly, I think it would be more fun to try that real time. Besides, we'd all be out there naked and warm. Nonetheless, it's quite fascinating to look at, and better when the artist considers the direction, quality and color of light when putting it all together. Rather I am using my digital tools as a darkroom. I may enhance color, change tone, eliminate detail, or dodge and burn as never before possible. Despite the up front pains I traditionally take, I have never made an image that couldn't be improved. No one has. It's the impure nature of the physical world. Beyond that, once I'm satisfied, I can now store the final information and generate identical prints whenever needed. Read On.. David Mendelsohn

A native of Scotland, Peter O'Neill currently resides in the small fishing and farming community of LaConner, WA. In between commercial fishing stints in Alaska, he is completing a degree in electronic engineering. His love for photography started more as a means to record scenes for his future oil paintings than as photography for its own sake. Realizing the immense potential that photography has as an avenue of expression convinced him to peruse the art with an unrelenting passion. As a vehicle of communicating over boundaries of language, culture and thought, photography offers a great envoy. "I have become very excited about the digital world of images. The ability to create a surreal scene of composite images not only allows for creative imagination but also brings together the artist and photographer in me," says O'Neill. "Considering the limitations that emulsions and oils place upon us, when recording or painting a scene, here we have at our fingertips the means to go further, beyond these limitations," he continues. Over the past ten years O'Neill has gained inspiration from the works of Ansel Adams, John Shaw and many amateurs from all walks of life. He has exhibited his photography successfully in local shows and competitions. He regularly gives slide shows for charity at retirement homes and is very much involved in the care and well being of both wild and domestic birds and animals that are either orphaned or injured. O'Neill explains "With the exponential growth in the use of home computers not only in advanced but also in third world countries, we have the ability to touch and be touched by the images of many diverse populations.

What Jane says about her work and a link to her new website... "Broadly, my work deals with character, identity and survival strategies; and is my attempt to understand, interpret and laugh at the complexities of life, the dynamics of interaction, our needs, patterns and reactions. Whilst intellect plays its part; I rely more on instinct than reason. The paintings evolve organically. I try to approach the work from the side; the more arbitrary the starting point, the more successful the painting. I steal from anywhere; inspiration has come from a snatched conversation, a photo, or a drape from a Caravaggio. Once a starting point has emerged, a dialogue begins and the painting clicks into action and takes on a life of its own. " JANE ANDREWS
