Having seen the work of Mario Pischedda on pixiport.com I felt compelled to interview this man who makes pictures that communicate so deeply. It might have been easier to search for his name on the internet BEFORE I asked him if I could interview him! I guess I never realised where I would be going in the next 24 hours! Mario Pischedda is as intense as his images are serene moments of insight to last only in archives of the viewer's mind.
Mario I love your work! How is your English?

Paul is an artist whose training as an architect is very evident in his work. He resides in Brussels, London, and his native Warsaw.
He has been showing his watercolor paintings in Europe and won numerous awards and recognition.
His art found its way into many prestigious collections including that of Pope John Paul II.
"What attracts me to a particular architectural subject has nothing to do with the style of the architecture, but the impression of the light and the way it reveals the shapes.
I like to express [by watercolor] the soul of an architectural interior. I feel there, very clear between light and darkness, the secret of every beginning."

A self taught photographer, I was born in Aarhus, Denmark where I spent my youth. I first became interested in photography when the family 6x6 box camera was passed down to me by my father. I soon built my own darkroom and explored the mystery of controlling the manipulation of light and shadow available in the photographic process from exposing the negative to light, developing it through to finally printing it. Throughout my teens and my twenties I have worked with 35mm, medium and large format. I relocated to England in my twenties and settled down in the Thames Valley, Berkshire. Having had a break from photography for over 10 years, I have re-discovered my burning enthusiasm for this medium and am now working almost entirely in the full frame digital format from exposure to post processing in the dry darkroom. My work is almost exclusively black and white and hugely influenced by my environment which throughout my life has been encompassed by water. It is my hope that my love for the intimacy and beauty inherent in the intrinsic landscape that immediately surrounds us, being it urban or rural, is evident in my work.

Some years ago I fell over a book of Ralph Gibson's work and fell in love with the first picture of a strong high- contrast black and white close up of a baby`s face.
I turned the pages and fell in love with everything starring back at me.
I aspired to but never reached the artistry and talent of this great photographer. But it led me on a journey I might never have taken. A list of awards and honours too long to include here, but luckily I parchanced upon an excellent interview with the great man by Chris Maher and Larry Berman which was Featured in the February 2002 issue of Shutterbug Magazine
